Hey why not
Extremely unlikely but if they did, I still don't think so.  It would be awesome though.  Before MD beat SJB (Thing 2) I thought maybe DLS would have a punchers chance to beat MD... especially with Lara as HC.  DLS D is legit but not that legit.  Their O is well...their O and we all know how the lack of consistent passing game works out.  I will say that if they didn't have so many kids transfer out in the off season, they would be much more competitive when they play either team.  Nice to have the fastest kid in the state though.

Would really like to see them play Sierra Canyon or SM next year.  Don't know if they return the favor and go play Lakeland in FL but after they made 2 trips out west they should.

SJB STILL should have won that game.  Being on the goal with plenty of time and they couldn't punch it in.  Says a lot about how they feel about their O line.  Terrible play calling.  MD played a great 2nd half and deserved to win.

You should still be able to see them, even if you can't comment on them.

My favorite game is in D-III.  Huntington Beach Edison is playing Huntington Beach.  As the higher seed, Edison is the home team.  The game will be played at Huntington Beach, since the Chargers don't have an on-campus stadium.  So HB will be the away team on their own campus.

(I realize this happened every other year when they were both in the Sunset League, but it's still funny)

I ended up subscribing. I went to his thread and was so happy to see the padres vs RLS in 1st round and then I scrolled to the latest and the happines was gone when I saw St Ignatius.  Hella not cool nor fair.  I hope he's off but PAL rarely is. BTW nice job by the Cowboys.  The game was back and forth and they eke out a win against us.

Yes, a bit of irony that teams in the B leagues wanted D-I/Open and D-II to be only those from A leagues... then some of those B teams became A teams.  But, kudos to the Padres for finishing 4th in the Gab.

As for the game (and the season at large), I'm wondering how much gamesmanship has been going on by all coaches.  MHAL teams played abysmal non-league schedules and get to avoid D-I/Open as a result.  Salinas has been calling off the dogs once they get up by 30.  This has been early in the 3rd quarter for a lot of these games, so the end result keeps them under the 30-point hsratings threshold of a blowout, dragging down the Cowboy rating.  Result, they may be able to avoid D-I/Open.

Quote from: SeaShells21 on Oct 31, 2025, 02:55 PMYes, but our Divisions are enrollment based.

Two for 6A.
Two for 5A
Two for 4A
Two for 3A
Two for 2A
Two for 1A

Around 230 schools in each Division:

6A   2275 and above   247 schools   247 schools (Basketball)   247 schools (Football)   245 schools (Volleyball)
5A   1315 - 2274   253 schools   253 schools (Basketball)   250 schools (Football)   253 schools (Volleyball)
4A   545 - 1314   218 schools   216 schools (Basketball)   200 schools (Football)   216 schools (Volleyball)
3A   254 - 544   231 schools   229 schools (Basketball)   201 schools (Football)   221 schools (Volleyball)
2A   105 - 253   226 schools   226 schools (Basketball)   206 schools (Football)   170 schools (Volleyball)
1A   104.9 and below   216 schools   215 schools (Basketball)   154 schools (Football)   123 schools (Volleyball)

Great, but 80% of California has rejected enrollment-based divisions.  There are too many powerful private (and some small public) schools to make it work well.

With the exception of the state Open Division in California, all others have between 32 and 56 teams (most are in the vicinity of 44).  Many sections have reduced the number of rounds because a lot of the old 1st round games were blowouts anyway.

What was described above is Southern Section-centric, as is much of the CIF discussion on this site.  The SS is the only section that can adequately have competitive 16-team brackets because of its overall size.

I would've liked to see Orange Lutheran and Servite play in division 2.

Those two being in D-I is not a travesty.  The real travesty is San Juan Hills.  I don't know the story of why they had to forfeit 7 games (it doesn't matter, btw), but those are supposed to be losses.  Instead the SS not only ignores them, but rewards them with a home playoff game?

Seriously, what the hell?

So, now teams can potentially cheat and have no repercussions at all?
