Quote from: Cal 14 on Oct 28, 2025, 01:23 PMIs Murrieta Valley currently the #9 team?  I don't have an hsratings membership.  If they are, they will likely be bumped to D-I and the 10th team along with them (at least).  According to Maxpreps, that could be Crean Lutheran.

8. Orange Lutheran - 63.4
9. Murrieta Valley - 55.1
10. Chapparal - 51.3
11. Vista Murrieta - 50.9
12. San Clemente - 50.4
13. Los Alamitos - 49.7
14. Corona del Mar - 49.4
15. Crean Lutheran - 48.7
16. JSerra - 47.8

Thanks.

This will likely end up being very interesting.  MV plays Roosevelt (should win that).  VM plays Norco (probably wins that).  Chapparal plays Centennial (very unlikely to win that).  This could set up a 3-way tie for 3rd place.  I know the SS tends to use coin-tosses for these situations instead of looking at non-league games like the rest of the state.

All three better hope that MV wins that toss!   ;D

A VM win could drag all 3 teams into D-I.  Does the Alpha League only get 2 AQs as a 4-team league?  If so, and if the SS seeks balance (even number) in D-I, a whole bunch of teams could be added.  A Chapparal win may also do the same.

This could really put the at-large thing to a test for the SS.

Norco beat VM last night so seems all the potential D1 drama has been averted.

Quote from: Bodysurf on Oct 31, 2025, 11:17 AMThere might be 16 teams in D1.

That's a strange recommendation from the advisory committee. IMHO, the D2 bracket is much more interesting with the #9-#24 teams as opposed to the #16-#32 teams. I'd much rather see teams like Crean Lutheran go on a Cinderella run and win D2 as opposed to getting blown out by Centennial in the first round (current projected matchup with a 16 team D1).  Does the advisory committee have people from northern CA angling for more favorable matchups in the state championships?

A 16-team D1 would suck for teams 9-16. But I like having more teams. I would actually prefer even larger brackets with 32 teams and having fewer divisions. I hate participation trophies and it's ridiculous with how many divisions and champions the CIF SS crowns. The fewer champions the better. This is one thing that Texas does WAY better than California.

Texas has just as many divisions as California.

Who was the 5A champion last year?

You can't tell me.

Why not?

Because they had two of them.

lmao

If you guessed Highland Park and South Oak Cliff, you'd be wrong. Those are the two teams that lost in the 5A championships.

I just checked and Texas had 12 state champs last year. California had 56 sectional champions and 15 state champions.
I love having 64 teams in a bracket.

3A   254 - 544   231 schools   229 schools (Basketball)   201 schools (Football)   221 schools (Volleyball)
2A   105 - 253   226 schools   226 schools (Basketball)   206 schools (Football)   170 schools (Volleyball)

A bad season from MD is still top 25 nationally.
