Good opening weekend with some tightly contested games against ranked teams. Nothing major as far as upsets. A number of out-of-state matchups are on the slate this week.

1. Hoban (previously #1, defeated Harvest Prep 31-12) - Arguably the most talented team in the state along with Glenville. The Knights made easy work of Harvest Prep with USC commit Elbert Hill picking off three passes. They travel to Maryland this week to take on Archbishop Spaulding who is looking to rebound from a loss to Brownsburg (IN). Spaulding handed them one of their two regular season losses last year, but I don't know the outlook on them this year. The Knights seem to struggle early on in these road games and will need to avoid getting down too much.

2. Moeller (previously #2, D1 defeated Princeton 41-20) - Moe got off to a slow start falling behind 13-0, but took a 14-13 halftime lead and blew it open in the second half to outscore Princeton 27-7. The defense came up with a whopping six interceptions. They are replacing a lot of guys on that side of the ball, so that is a good sign. Much bigger test this week as they take on defending Illinois state champ Mt. Carmel (IL) who is supposed to be pretty loaded. Neutral site game in Ironton as part of their annual classic.

3. St. Xavier (previously #3, beat Lakota West 14-7) - Typical defensive battle between X and LW who both have a number of D1 guys on that side of the ball. We'll see if the X offense can have a better showing this week against Centerville.

4. Glenville (previously #5, beat Massillon 33-27 (OT)) - Glenville's plethora of athletes were on display in this great opening game. The Tarblooders looked dominant in the early going jumping out to a 19-0 lead, but Massillon stormed back to tie things up at 27 a piece. QB Arvell Nelson, Jr. found St. Edward transfer Joe Saffold in the endzone for the walk-off OT win. Big statement for Glenville going on the road to Massillon and getting the win. They are on the road again this week to take on defending D1 state champion Olentangy Liberty.

5. Massillon (previously #4, lost to Glenville 33-27) - Only dropping the Tigers a spot this week. Still impressed by their offensive skill players. Lots of speed at receiver and a powerful running game. A couple of blocked FG attempts prevented them from winning in regulation. They will get back on track this week and should bury GlenOak.

6. St. Edward (previously #6, beat Pick North 24-0) - Eagles dominated a very talented, but schematically pedestrian Pick North team. RB Brandon White (back from a season-ending ACL injury in week 3 last year) looks fully recuperated and dominated the first half with 3 TD's (2 rushing, 1 receiving) before being spelled by Ty Buchanan for most of the second half. Ed's defense, featuring an almost entirely new front 7, swarmed PN for most of the evening. Only concern was the special teams, which saw four missed XP's. Eagles will look to get that corrected this week as they host Delbarton (NJ).

7. Bishop Watterson (previously #7, beat Big Walnut 37-15) - Watterson looks like they picked up where they left off last year, dominating a pretty good Big Walnut team. I think DIII will once again come down to Watterson and TCC. They play Middletown (DE) this week.

8. Anderson (previously #8, beat Cooper (KY) 52-10) - Destroyed an overmatch Cooper (KY) team. Anderson is talented, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and is one of the favorites to return to Canton in DII. They are home this week against West Clermont and should steamroll them as well.

9. Walsh Jesuit (previously others, beat TCC 17-14) - Very good week one win over TCC. Iowa State commit Milan Parris had a big night with 116 yards on 5 catches with a TD. Very well coached group that will be looking to knock off rival Hoban this year. They go on the road to play Springfield this week

10. Pickerington Central (previously others, beat Gahanna-Lincoln 45-14) - The Tigers made a big statement in week one by destroying a pretty talented GL team. They were getting some hype in the pre-season, but I wanted to see how they looked in the early going. The next two weeks could tell us if they deserve a higher ranking with Wayne and Pick North. They host Wayne this week.

Others: Avon, Olentangy Orange, Lakota West, TCC, Pickerington North, Wayne, Winton Woods, Elder, Mentor, Olentangy, Canton McKinley, Ursuline, La Salle, Upper Arlington, Princeton

Spruce Creek was ranked 90th in Florida coming into the game. They had 20 penalties, 2 missed extra points, a failed 2pt conversion, a 10 yard punt and almost had 2 coaches ejected for unsportsmanlike penalties. They did everything they possibly could to lose and still won

Is nolebob813 the most cancerous vagina to ever post on the forums! That's really not a question. Most know.

This insecure misfit has been whining for a week on the Florida High School football forum and the National Outcast forum.

Florida wins 1 OOS game and he's back here

Why's crazy is Avon paid at least $50,000 to come down and lose to a garbage team. Lol. That's gotta sting

Avon committed plenty of uncharacteristic penalties as well. They also choked like dogs down the stretch when they were up by 3 and driving late in the fourth for the game-clinching score and fumbled at SP's 22 yard line. Regardless, Avon is not the team they were last year. They will still likely finish 8-2 with next week's game against Glenville being the only one they will be underdogs in, but I don't see them challenging Hoban, Walsh or Massillon in D2 this year. Should they have beat a mediocre SP team last night? Probably. But not some gigantic feather in Florida's cap.

They were ranked 7th in the state and 3rd in their class. Will they win state? Probably not. But Spruce Creek is garbage! There is a reason they are 90th in Florida. I just thought it was a shocking result given the disparity in the state rankings

Redzone is still butthurt that the 93rd ranked Florida team (Escambia High) came to Louisana and pounded the 10th ranked Louisiana team (Archbishop Rummel) 21-8. LMAO!

this game reminds him of that game 😝

Haha good point. They did not look like a team that could sniff state this year. I was surprised how many bonehead mistakes they made as well that kept spruce in the game and eventually it cost them.

They may sniff it because there are not many challengers in their region. They could not get past TCC when they were in their region, but once TCC dropped to D3 it opened to door for them consistently get to the final 4. They could very well be a final four team in D2 this year, but Hoban should drill them.  And as long as Glenville does not get penalty happy next week, I think they drill Avon next week.

My last thoughts on Avon, a few years back they went down to Florida to play a team from S. Carolina in some event and eeked out a 7-0 win. That SC team won like two games that year. Avon went on to the regional final before losing to TCC. That seems to mirror what I expect to happen this year. Not sure why Avon would choose to schedule these games when they could easily take on one of Ohio's big dogs (cough, Ed's, cough) right at home.
