Very similar to Louisiana. Louisiana has way more private schools than Alabama though.

This passed by a vote of 13-2.

The 2026-27 and 2027-28 football alignment is as follows:

Class 6A:  32 largest schools
Class 5A: 64 schools
Class 4A: 64 schools
Class 3A: 64 schools
Class 2A: 63 schools
Class 1A: 63 schools
Private Double A: 16 schools
Private Single A: 32 schools

Never been a fan of splitting them. As a player I would want to play against whoever the best are being public or private. Plus not a fan of being told who I can and can't play.

Exactly! Never understood not wanting to compete or play against the best.

100% agree. I played against a private school that did not lose a game for like 3 years and every year, that was the game we all looked forward to. Why wouldn't you want to test yourself as muich as possible?  Shoot those 4 years flew by and it would have sucked if pubs and privs were split.

Public's and Private's play all the time in Louisiana during the regular season.
Lots of Districts are mixed between Public and Private schools

They only split when the Playoffs start.

One of the biggest games lined up in 2026 so far is Catholic (Baton Rouge) vs Ruston.

Closest we ever came was my senior year. 17-0. lol and that was a huge victory for us to only lose by 17. They were a machine.
