High School Football Discussion / Re: New QB coach and playcalle...
Last post by Wooderson - Jun 02, 2026, 10:37 AMAssuming that "scrimmage" equates to pads and contact with some limits I think it's reasonable to be generous with the learning curve. I'd be far more concerned with a lacking performance in a passing league setting than a scrimmage, though that's largely mitigated by playing style come the fall (if you win games in the fall running the ball your QB's ability to carry you in shirts and shorts is at best a bonus). And even with that, I'm less apt to put stock into a bad off-season performance from someone at a great program and am going with a "prove it" attitude when someone from a lesser program has a stellar off-season.

High School Football Discussion / New QB coach and playcaller, h...
Last post by DreadnaughtAlum - Jun 01, 2026, 11:07 PMwould we expect a HS QB and his offense to be as of *May* 15? How much growth and development can we expect to occur between May 15 and August 15? December 15? Assume the new QB coach is fairly good but perhaps not a miracle worker.
The player started last season as a WR/RB/KR after being a starting QB as a sophomore at another school. He moved back to QB after the starter was demoted and left the program. QB has a strong arm but significant accuracy/consistency issues. He's a really good athlete and a good leader as well.
How much should we read into his performance in a couple of half-game scrimmages in mid-May?

A great story is SJB pitcher Julian Garcia who sat out his JR year with Tommy John Surgery and came back and dominated this year... he pitched a one hitter with 14 k's and No walks.... He finished the season with 107k's and only 10 walks.... Hard to believe he is not D1 committed yet but I am sure that is coming or he will be drafted, he throws absolute gas....
Hard to rank Baseball teams but I would take SJB against any team in the Country this year....
Baseball is so hard to guage. But it's obviously how you are playing at the end of the year that matters. Ask UCLA.

SFL publics can out-athlete all their local counterparts, but nationally ranked teams have just as many athletes as well as the coaching, discipline, execution etc to make games a blowout.I think that area can produce top 10 teams, but last years Northwestern wasn't one of those teams nor was Raines.
They are just built different. Raines and MNW are mirror images of each other. That's why the game was so close. Both would get blown out by the top 10.

I wouldn't bet more than like $5 (which I'd be willing to waste for the entertainment value while watching the game) on any team against Bosco, Mater Dei or Bishop Gorman. And 2) that wasn't the claim in regards to Raines anyway. My claim on them is they belonged in or very near the top 10 nationally. And that's the same thing I'm claiming with Cherry Creek. Physically, CC resembles a top tier Trinity league team.Beating Northwestern in a 50/50 game isn't top 10 material last year. Top 25 at best.

Sorry pal. Barely beating a 2A team by 3 points who didn't beat one high quality team all year doesn't catapult you into the national top 20.
