Quote from: TheOC89 on Aug 29, 2025, 07:54 PMDLS looking Terrible on Offense right now.... Terrible penalties and they are in trouble with QB with no threat of run....

Lucked out with a missed FG by Lakeland.... Lakelands best player apparently didn't play last week.... 🤣
Yeah DLS QB isn't looking to good right now.Defense is playing pretty good though

DLS has completely controlled the game.... Nice drive 98 yards to end the half but lack of running QB is not helping, they are just not a passing team no matter how much they try....

Their best plays are the inside runs but without the QB as a threat the Defense can just focus on the RB's.... 3-0 DLS at half, we will see if DLS can figure out the offense.... With last years QB who could run but not pass, DLS would be Up by 2 TD's at this point.... Lakeland is really fast but OLine is not impressive, DLS dominating on Defense....
They looked bad mostly but when 2 things happened the game became easier.  They seemed to FINALLY look like they wanted to block somebody and the backs started to hit the hole faster.  Coaches started to call sensible plays too.  That helps.

Go back to the National Outcast Forum with the losers that blurt out anything they want to.....and then call it expert national opinion.

What a freaking joke

It was a winning effort from the Lakeland defense. The offense had its moments against a very good DLS defense, but inevitably shoots itself in the foot, which it can't do with the mediocre offensive line. Missed 36-yd FG, missed EP and then missed opportunity driving up 6-3 with a chance to put it away. Fittingly, they faced a 3rd and about 4 around the 20 of DLS...and then had a delay of game which screwed the drive. I gather Lakeland didn't actually bring in a new OC and it's still the head coach running the offense. And he's in over his head in this area, as they continue to struggle to shuffle in personnel and they continue to run Wildcat without the QB on the field, which amounts to telling the defense the play.

Malik Morris is clearly far below 100%, as he mostly played DL/edge where he was needed at MLB, which is where DLS went on the game-winning TD.

As is always the case, we can't read too much into results in August. If DLS has a historically bad season, it's a bad loss for Lakeland. I don't think that'll happen, and so I don't think it was a bad showing. Difficult to lose such a winnable game. And it has to be hard to play defense on that team given the offense's struggles.

It seemed like a respectable, "good vibes" feel between the teams. I hope the DLS contingent got a better impression of Lakeland than some had in 2009.

I thought both teams represented themselves well. And it was fun to watch. It could have gone either way.

Update on Lakeland: the QB from this DLS game (and MNW) left the program and transferred to Tampa Gaither. I'm not sure yet if he left before or after the the 32-13 win over Lake Mary. But, he did not dress for that game and Lakeland unveiled a new QB who looked rather awesome. He (Kelin Hendrix) was playing WR, RB and kick returner in Concord. He started at QB all of 2024 for a very bad Kathleen team, and did quite well within the context of the bad, 0-10 team (1621 passing yards, 14 TDs, 9 INT and had over 700 rushing yards). Against Lake Mary- a top 15 or 20 Florida team- Hendrix went 11-20 for 237 yards and 2 TDs while also rushing for over 100 yards. It's far too early to say Lakeland might have a shot at STA given the debacle we saw last December. But, whereas we all knew they had no shot based on MNW and DLS, now we shouldn't be quite as sure. The offense looked crisp and the best it's looked since 2023 and maybe even 2022. At the moment, I give Lakeland a 5% chance of beating STA. That could increase depending on what does or doesn't happen the rest of the way.

Didn't the Announcers say the QB for Lakeland was committed to Arkansas?..... If so that's crazy that we would leave and lose the QB spot this early in the season....

I'll be rooting for Lakeland for the rest of the season.

I don't want to miss the opportunity to give a shout out to Folsom's fans: In the week prior to playing DLS, Serra scored 42 points against Folsom. Serra then scored 0 points against DLS.

So, either DLS's defense is elite, which I find hard to believe, or else Folsom's defense doesn't really exist.

He might be a D1 size but he's definitely not a D1 for his skills. I guess some schools feel they can teach you skill because they can't teach you size.

Yep, he is committed to Arkansas. And here's a real kicker: I'm 95% sure Arkansas coaches traveled to watch the Lake Mary game in person! While they can always recruit other players from either team, you have to assume the QB was the main reason they came. It's possible they arrived in Lakeland that Friday only to find their QB commit had just quit the team and left the program to head to his fourth school in as many years. I have a hunch they will quietly pull the offer.

My hunch is DLS is very good, but not elite, on defense. Elite offenses would probably score in the 30s against them, a la Mater Dei last year.

He's not really that big. He has a nice arm, but he's always shown a propensity for interceptions. And he had both bad picks and bad throws that should've been picked while at Lakeland. QBs can grow out of that...to an extent.
I don't think Kelin Hendrix will be a college QB, but I also don't think there's anyway one can watch his game against Lake Mary and not notice how much better Lakeland's offense looked with him in. And so that's an indictment of Kavouklis.
