QuoteMD has a tendency to take teams lightly which they did against Kahuku and probably considered that more of a Hawaii vacation rather than a serious FB game
That was a home game for Mater Dei...

HA!!.., My bad, Maybe MD was just daydreaming during the game that they were in Hawaii instead... 🤣🤣
MD needs a QB.

I agree, I was home sick from work today so I watched MD vs Kahuku and SJB vs SFA and wasn't overly impressed with the QB play on either team....

I do think that MD was kind of Mailing that game in, they looked sloppy and lethargic, Turnovers, Bad Penalties, dropped passes and couldn't control the LOS....

I thought SJB looked better overall, a little quicker, more diciplined, less mistakes, and SFA is a really good team.... SJB's QB missed some open throws and doesn't throw a great ball, but he hit the big plays when he needed to and SJB's receivers are very good.... Plus isn't the SJB QB like a Sophomore?.... He will only get better....

The next 2 weeks will tell a lot about MD, their QB and overall team... If they don't play more disciplined and stop shooting themselves in the foot, that could go 0-2... They don't look like the Top team in the country right now, they look very beatable....

There were like 4 passes that if he threw them with 5% less gas they would have been completions. As you said he's just a sophomore so hopefully the touch will develop with time.

I told Steeler this during the game, and I'll repeat it here. He needs to stop throwing jump balls over the middle. He threw one in the SFA game that could have very easily been a pick. I understand that Madden Williams is a beast, but if you want to throw him a jump ball do it on an out or a fade and not on a post into traffic over the middle of the field.

Yes, that was the Difference in the game.... SJB held on to 2 INT's over the middle from the SFA QB, those were both key stops....

To your point, SJB's QB's best throws were the deep throws down the sideline, he hit 2 of those for TD's.... The ones in the middle of the field could be a little scary.... I think he will only get better though... Unless he doesn't beat MD and JN decides to Replace him with a Transfer.... 🤣

OK, I'll bite.

  • Josh Rosen: Entered as a Freshman in 2011 and started 2012-2014.
  • Quentin Davis: Transferred from Mater Dei as a Sophomore in 2013. Started in 2015 as a Senior.
  • Re'al Mitchell: Entered as a Freshman in 2014. Started as a Junior and Senior. Split snaps with DJU in mid 2017 before becoming "injured"
  • DJ Uiagalelei: Entered as a Freshman in 2016. Split snaps in 2017, started in 2018 and 2019.
  • Pierce Clarkson: Entered as a Freshman in 2019. Split snaps with Katin Houser in 2020 (Spring 2021 6 game season) and 2021. Started in 2022
  • Katin Houser: Transferred as a Junior in 2020 (Spring 2021) and split snap with Pierce Clarkson in 2020 and 2021.
  • Caleb Sanchez: Entered as a Freshman in 2020. Started as a Senior in 2023.
  • Matai Fuiava: Entered as a Freshman in 2022. Started as a Junior the first half of 2024. Split snaps with Koa Malau'ulu for 2 games before leaving for Kahuku, HI.
  • Koa Malau'ulu: Entered as a Freshman in 2024. Split snaps with Matai Fuiava before taking over as the starter in 2024 after Matai left. Started as a Sophomore in 2025.

Negro has literally never replaced any starting QB with a transfer. He's only had 2 transfer QBs in his 16 year tenure (Quentin Davis who started 1 year as a Senior after Rosen graduated and Katin Houser who split snaps with Pierce Clarkson for 1.5 seasons after DJU graduated) and he doesn't "replace" QBs. In two instances, he platooned 2 QBs and in both instances a QB "quit" the team because neither of their egos could handle splitting snaps with another QB.

HA!.... That is a great rundown!.... I just assumed that with the way the TL goes that SJB had a transfer or 2 as a starter over the last several years.... I think the current kid will be really good.... He already has big game experience and he runs the offense well....

Now, Mater Dei on the other hand... 3 of their last 4 QBs have been either JR or SR transfers (though none of them have replaced existing starters).

  • Bryce Young (transferred as a JR in 2018)
  • Elijah Brown (started FR-SR)
  • Dash Beierly (transferred as a SR in 2024)
  • Ryan Hopkins (transferred as a SR in 2025)

I think the SJB qb will be fine . I don't mind a few missed throws as he is learning and getting more comfortable in pocket . What I like is his confidence when he throws it . He steps right into it and he has a great arm . As far as MD goes, that was a lacklustre, already know the outcome kind of performance like SJB had a couple of seasons' ago . Their defense seems to have slipped a little though . Next couple of games will reveal a lot more
