Some nice OOS wins for Ohio after a rough week two. Ed's, Moe and X looking like the class of Ohio at the moment, but all face stiff challenges in the coming weeks. Big mover this week is Olentangy Orange. They were getting a lot of pre-season hype from the central Ohio folks, but I'm always wait and see with the Columbus teams. With Pick Central going down this week to rival North and Orange dominating a solid Olentangy team, the Pioneers are to be taken seriously behind a very talented QB in Levi Davis. Avon was the other big winner knocking off Glenville. I still don't think they are as good as last year, but they rebounded from a bad loss in Florida and are still on the short list of D2 title contenders (which does not appear to be as strong overall as last year).
1. St. Edward (3-0) (previously #1, beat Wayne 63-27): Another week where the game was over by halftime. Coach Lombardo really opened it up this week in the passing game, letting QB Johnny Evanchick show what he can do. The result was 13-14 passing for 230 yards and 3 Td's in the first half along with a rushing TD. He sat the entire second half. Toledo commit Zack Hackleman scored twice and became the leading receiver in St. Edward history. Now the revenge tour begins as the Eagles will host Glenville this Friday and go to Massillon next week, both losses last year. 9/12 v. Glenville.
2. Archbishop Moeller (2-1) (previously #2, beat Trinity (KY) 24-21): Moeller put itself in an early 14-0 hole, which has been a pattern for them through the first 3 weeks, but fought back for the win. They got a scare as Ponatoski appeared to be hobbled, but he stayed in the game and led the comeback win. Moeller is dealing with a number of injuries right now, but still finding ways to win. Interesting road trip this week against a Tennessee team I've never heard of, but looks to be one of these "Academy" schools. 9/12 @ Christ Presbyterian Academy (TN).
3. St. Xavier (3-0) (previously #3, beat Cathedral (IN) 24-6): Third week holding their opponents to a single score. Not sure how good Cathedral is this year but, historically, they are usually pretty good. The will host a Westerville North team this week that has been held scoreless and given up 80 points the past two weeks. Time to see the Bomber offense go off. 9/12 v. Westerville North.
4. Walsh Jesuit (3-0) (previously #8, beat Football North (ON) 30-6): I'm taking a bit of a leap of faith here moving Walsh up, but I like this Warriors team and I'm a big fan of their coach Nick Alexander. He guided Walsh to an undefeated regular season last year, including a win over rival Hoban before losing the rubber match to them in the regional final. I like them at the top of D2 at the moment with Hoban and Massillon having some early season issues. 9/12 @ St. Ignatius.
5. Anderson (3-0) (previously #7, beat Little Miami 50-7): Anderson kind of moves up by default here. The 2024 D2 runner's up boast a really good defense and have been blowing out the competition so far. The problem is the competition sucks. However, it was kind of the same story last year and they nearly knocked off Avon and took it all. 9/12 v. Lebanon.
6. Olentangy Orange (3-0) (previously others, beat Olentangy 42-14): The Pioneers have scored 42 in all three games this year and held their first two opponents scoreless. The have a really electric QB in Ohio U commit Levi Davis, a kid who would probably have much better offers if he was bigger. This week could be their biggest test yet as they take on Gahanna-Lincoln, a very athletic team that handed them a loss last year. 9/12 v. Gahanna-Lincoln.
7. Archbishop Hoban (2-1) (previously #6, beat Detroit King (MI) 23-21): Hoban rebounds from an embarrassing loss with a win over a top 10 Michigan team. We'll see if they can build on this. They should roll the next two weeks against Akron East and Brush before the showdown with Walsh. 9/12 v. Akron East.
8. Bishop Watterson (3-0) (previously #10, beat Westerville North 38-0): Rolled over WN this week. That's the type of result they will need to maintain their ranking. Next two weeks should be layups. 9/12 v. Columbian.
9. Avon (2-1) (previously others, beat Glenville 28-16): Really nice win against Glenville, who I expected to handle Avon this year. Coach Elder and company knew that they let one get away in Florida last weekend and came back focused for this game. The Eagles will likely run the table from here out as they begin conference play, but need to show some dominance to stay in the top ten. 9/12 @ North Ridgeville.
10. Glenville (2-1) (previously #4, lost to Avon 28-16): Tarblooders are hanging on by a thread here. Less than impressive win against Liberty on the road last week and then drop one to Avon. Big game this weekend in Lakewood as they will look to upset St. Edward again. In addition to the bevy of D1 talents they returned from last season, they bolstered their roster with two transfers from Ed's in WR Joe Saffold and DT Diondre Taylor. Both have been impact players this year and should add some extra juice to this matchup. Last years game went down to the wire as a short-handed Ed's team could not stop the Glenville run game or establish the run against Glenville's D. They get a healthy St. Edward team this time around that looks to be a far more complete team than last year. 9/12 @ St. Edward.
Others: Lakota West, Pick North, Pick Central, Massillon, Upper Arlington, Elder, Mentor, La Salle, Highland, Princeton, Wadsworth, TCC, Canton McKinley, Trotwood-Madison, *Ursuline
* Ursuline is a top contender in D3, but cancelled their game this past week amid a nasty civil lawsuit filed by a player on the team against the school related to some pretty grotesque hazing allegations from this summer. It's unclear at this point if Ursuline will cancel more games or whether the school will suspend the players involved and keep playing.
Informative, as always👍
Always an excellent breakdown of Ohio! I look forward to it every week.
Moeller should have no problem with CPA from TN. CPA moved up to the big boy private class in TN and took on a very ambitious schedule. The team they had last year would've been a more competitive game for Moeller (maybe a loss), but not this year. CPA has bitten off more than they can chew this year. They scheduled Oakland, Tupelo and Moeller out of district. They still have to play McCallie and Baylor as well. If they finish 5-5 I'll be impressed.

Tupelo, MS beat CPA 23-7.this past weekend. Tupelo would have probably put up 40 easily.
NASHVILLE – The only thing that could stop Tupelo's thunder-and-lightning duo of J.J. Hill and Kylan Bobo was actual thunder and lightning.
Tupelo defeated Christ Presbyterian Academy 23-7 Friday night in a game that was called after the first half due to lightning. The Golden Wave carved up CPA on the ground, with Hill and Bobo combining for 223 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Like I said, CPA isn't the same team from last year. They will be better next year. I hope both Tupelo and Moeller were two year deals. The weather must've been terrible in Nashville. Baylor/Brentwood Academy was completely cancelled.
