That's pretty cool.

Thursday night game in NOLA.

Santa Fe Christian is 3-0 and #7 in San Diego.

Newman is 1-0 and entered the Louisiana 2A rankings this week at #10. Newman surprised me last week getting the win in Texas.

Let the record reflect that Red Flag was "surprised" the 13th New Orleans team and 28th overall state ranked team won by 1 point against some team so bad that they can't even be apart of TAPPS, which is the developmental league for real football in Texas. Lol

California doesn't have Classes so it's hard to give a real Class ranking on Santa Fe Christian.

I would imagine they are one of the top small schools in California this year.
Santa Fe Christian clubbed Helix and Helix seems to be rolling now.

Santa Fe Christian would be a large 2A in Louisiana, maybe even a small 3A..

Hard to say really #20-#30 range.

Maxpreps has Newman  #13, but there''s just no way in hell Newman is going to beat all those 5A and 4A schools in Metro NOLA. Forget about it!

It's a very silly and not very realistic ranking.

Anyways, might be a fun game. I may ride out there and watch it. Newman's stadium is pretty small with only stands on the home side (but it's nice), has a capacity of over 2,000. They may squeeze another 500 or more people standing around. Everybody want to see Drew Brees and his boys!

Newman will make the trip to California next year

You can actually walk out of one of the buildings on campus at Newman right onto the football field.

Newman has a very nice Field House on the south end zone.
Everything is tight and compact there.

Pictures aside.
If Santa Fe Christian is good as advertised they shouldn't have any problems with Newman. Santa Fe Christian is getting a lot of ink in San Diego that much is true.

Going to Cornell.
Looks like he can sling it pretty good.

Agreed. Carver Collegiate from New Orleans is undefeated and playing the 103rd ranked FL team. Just got the doors blown off by Godby.

So they got FL# 103 and CA# 107 on tap.

May the victor go the spoils!

Santa Fe Christian is better than 92% of California if you use MaxPreps.

California obviously has very little depth.

On a serious note.

If Santa Fe Christian wins out in California which they probably will (99.9% chance) what Division in the playoffs do they go to and what teams might they play?

That's something I'd like to know because I don't have a clue.

Carver (NOLA) has entered my Santa Fe Christian/Newman thread.

The Internet is just really fucked by freaks. Wherever you go, doesn't matter. Football forums, Twitter, Facebook, etc.. .

Nothing but freaks!

Note: Carver is currently #147 in Louisiana

Anyways, if anyone knows the answer to my question lay it on me.

I think he doesn't want to admit that they only dominated Lousiana, but got punked around like little bitches out of state. The large teams in Louisiana couldn't do shit, and Evangel thought that was the case everywhere, but check these 6 losses they had in 2004 and 2005 alone when they won the Louisiana state championships.

2004

Losses to Springdale,Ark, Longview TX and Abilene TX

2005

Losses to Springdale Ark, Texas High and Longview TX

And in 2005, they lost 35-7, 45-10 and 52-14 to those OOS teams!!!

West Monroe is the biggest high school in Louisiana. And when 3A American Heritage-Delray went over there (3A out of 8A), they brought 40 players from a high school of 500 enrollment, and were beating West Monroe so bad they were kneeling the ball in the red zone up 31-7 and couldn't even run out the clock!  They turned the ball over on downs on a QB kneel!!!!

Yes, The will be Max SDD1 and that will be because they win D2 last year.... Assuming they are Undefeated....

The Open in SD will be between LaCosta Canyon, Carlsbad, SDCC and Mission Hills... Mission Hills has the ex MD QB Ferreira, who is having a good year there.... The cool thing is that only SDCC is not in their league so the other 3 will play each other... SDCC will be the most battle tested though, with games against OLU, Chandler AZ and DLS easily the toughest Schedule in SD....

Some people on this forum take MaxPreps more seriously than they do the Bible. That's a fact.
I use it from time to time, but I think I'm really the only one that's ever posted a state or city poll on this fourm.

Red Flag will use maxpreps whenever it fits his narrative but as soon as it doesn't, he tries to bash it. He will cite it every chance he gets.

In regards to this game, this is the 13th ranked New Orleans team against the 14th ranked San Diego team.

Both teams are affluent private schools with the exact same amount of enrollment in grades 9-12. They are both in the 8th percentile of their respective states, meaning they are better than 92 percent of their state.

This game is as even as it gets. Newman gets this game at home so they will have the refs on their side.

This game should go down to the wire. Every metric says so. If one of these teams get blown out, it will not look good for the depth of that state.

Some people on this forum take MaxPreps more seriously than they do the Bible. That's a fact.
I use it from time to time, but I think I'm really the only one that's ever posted a state or city poll on this fourm.

I'm all for using State polls and City polls if available and they are normally available.

Those polls don't fit the moron's agenda's though.

What state and city polls are differing significantly from Maxpreps, specifically as things appear at the end of a given season?

People "care" about Maxpreps in the sense that it's a near-universal hub for stats, schedules, rosters, and over 20 years worth of historical information on those items. That does lend a degree of utility to the data their computers come up with (be it strength ratings or overall team rankings), and those numbers are as good (and as bad) as any other of the major, national "polls". The primary shortcoming for Maxpreps is they hide how they get to these numbers by claiming their formulas are "proprietary" in nature, thus leaving a lot of guesswork as to which fingers they're holding on the scales. Even with that being what it is, Maxpreps has an ass load of data readily available that can be used to affirm or discredit their final result (if they were to name an undefeated team from New Hampshire national champs at the end of the year it wouldn't be difficult to reverse engineer how they got there).

Maxpreps rankings are just as flawed as any other system but have the benefit of housing so much information that it's very easy to be able to look at previous seasons and have an educated guess as to how their methodology has improved.

MaxPreps does have good information especially since Calpreps went subscription on us. But their rankings are terrible.

How many examples do you need or want? I can go all day.

Here's a quick one.

MaxPreps has Celina #20 in TX.
They're not even currently ranked in the 5A polls, Dave Campbell's anyways ....... they are considered the gold standard in Texas.

Let me know if you want or need more

Anyways, back to Santa Fe Christian/Newman.
Dave Campbell has St John's (Houston) #10 this week (dropped) in their Private High School poll which includes ALL the Private High Schools in Texas.  That was a pretty good win for Newman. Unexpected in my head.

That's the only reason I think Newman might be a little competitive tonight.

Holy smokes. This clown just said beating the 10th ranked private school in a state that is dominated by 99 percent publics with the 13th ranked from New Orleans was good win.

How shitty do you have to view Lousiana? That's crazy. Only Red Flag could self own so hard.

It would be like bragging about beating the 10th ranked MAIS teams.

13th New Orleans vs 14th San Diego.

I clearly asked for end of season rankings, not some mid-season ranking that means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things. Comparing a partial data set to a person/group of people's subjective opinion is not an apples-to-apples discussion.

Aside from yourself, who has ever claimed that Dave Campbell's rankings are the "gold standard" in Texas? Possessing the ability to publish a comprehensive preview magazine for over 50 years and a dynamic, weekly ranking across 7-8 alignment conferences are vastly different skill sets; we had a guy out here that made a Dave Campbell-esque preview mag for 25+ years and his preseason rankings were frequently out in left field (he'd rank a 4-6 team with 15 starters back over a team that beat them 42-0 but only had three starters back), and the one Dave Campbell mag I have in my library (2008) gets pretty loopy in spots as well (i.e. Allen ranked 14th in 5A preseason just ahead of a 15-1 campaign).

Local rankings are by and large a mixed bag; Sondheimer with the LA Times has been a walking punchline for years among SoCal fans, and the so-called "voice of authority" on the Arizona high school ranks is a guy that was previously the primary beat writer for the Diamondbacks, was very publicly caught plagiarizing in that role, and was demoted to the preps beat in lieu of termination. These "experts" are almost always guys whose first focus is on journalism in general (they'd have no issue writing about politics or movies if that was the opportunity in front of them), sports second (the paper of record out here used the prep beat as a farm system to the pro and college beats - do well writing about the inspiring story of a double-amputee pitcher and you might get full-access to the Suns/Cardinals/Diamondbacks locker room), and high school sports last. You're championing one obviously-flawed methodology because you agree with the end result of it over another obviously-flawed methodology.

He won't cause he's not being realistic.

During the season there's fluctuation with MaxPreps that a lot of rankings won't agree with, but at the end of the year it's very good for in-state rankings per division and if there's enough connectivity for the entire state(Texas lower division teams cause problems here because there lower division teams don't play the higher division teams).

Funny story.

I remember in 2018 when TAPP Bishop Dunn  finished #12 at MaxPreps in Texas.

Bishop Dunn played 2 Louisiana teams and Desoto for their OOC schedule....Decent OOS schedule.

Anyways, CE Byrd (Shreveport) beat Bishop Dunn. CE Byrd was an above average Louisiana team ranked #27 here by Maxpreps, I believe

The normal buffoons on this forum all claimed MaxPreps sucked because CE Byrd beat Bishop Dunn.

"There's no way in hell Bishop Dunn is #12 in Texas" they all yelled....." they are a low class TAPP (that's private school for you dummies)" , they yelled.

My senior year Peoria Centennial started the season 3-0. Were ranked fourth in the state for Class 4A going into the fourth week of the season.

In that fourth week we lost 31-7 to Sunrise Mountain, went 1-6 the rest of the way and missed the playoffs.

Phoenix Sunnyslope was never ranked higher than seventh in the state (went 9-1 with a weak schedule) but scored a second round playoff upset and advanced to the semifinals.

It would be really stupid to say that Centennial had just as successful of a season as Sunnyslope since at both teams' peak they were both top four teams. Yet that's the argument your All Rankings Matter viewpoint supports.

Not one person has made the argument that Maxpreps is infallible. Ever. I think the algorithm was completely out of sorts ranking Lincoln Christian ahead of Owasso, Jenks, and Carl Albert in their end of season Oklahoma rankings. I can only guess that was due to Lincoln beating Shiloh Christian in OOS play, and if I'm to assume that as fact I disagree with that methodology.

That's just one example of Maxpreps running afoul of my personal prep football sensibilities.

You disagree with Maxpreps ranking of Newman in their New Orleans rankings. Why is that? Where should they be ranked instead? Actually build an argument against those rankings that shows you have some insight on the topic beyond suckling at the teet of some sportswriter getting paid $35K a year.

You're rather gullible to think sportswriters are getting ahold of information that wasn't going to see the light of day on its own. Sportwriters know what the coaches allow them to know, and a good share of that is stuff coaches know is not going to stay under wraps naturally.

I've been around long enough to remember that the shocking thing about Spencer Rattler's suspension during his senior year at Pinnacle wasn't that it happened or he lied about an injury to cover it up but that NOBODY knew why it happened. The fact that the coaches and family were able to lock that down without a slip to the Phoenix prep sports rumor mill is downright miraculous.

They got to sleep in their beds while Santa Fe Christian is getting jet lag over 2 time zones and cooped up in hotels.

They are coming off what Red Flag has deemed a great surprising win against a top ranked Texas private school.

This team shot up the state and metro rankings higher than they have in the maxpreps era. This was their once in a generation team.

Hosting an up and comer that is only discussed because of a famous QB part of the program.

I'm questioning the depth in New Orleans if they can't make a game of it in the 2nd half

Funny how he is always missing when Lousiana is playing OOS. He would only come into the Carrollton/Catholic and NS/Curtis if the Louisiana team made a good play.

Lousiana has been outscored 129-51 in the 3 top OOS games this year.

Carrollton 61, Catholic 27

North Shore 27, Curtis 17

Santa Fe Christian 41, Newman 7 (so far)

When you see these results, it makes so much sense why Red Flag always pumps up the craziest results like beating Legacy TX, St Johns, random Mississippi etc etc.

it's all he has!!!!

After 6 months of Red Flag hyping this game, he will weasel his way here sometime to say Santa Fe is a title contender and Newman is garbage.

Rinse repeat.

Ruston/Longview and Curtis/Louisville will be the new hype.

41-7. I think Brees didn't want to run up the score since his kid used to go to Newman and played with those guys in youth ball.

It was 41-7 after 3. Game could have been 55-7 but Santa Fe didn't feel the need to make it happen.

Those Louisiana teams have been getting a lot of pity lately.  Carrollton could've put up 70 on Catholic and decided to leave it at 61

Newman will always be home to the 5-8 153 pounders with  BMWs!........

There's a reason why Newman has never played in a state championship game.

Yeah they had 61 after 3 quarters. They emptied the bench in the 4th to let all the 2nd and 3rd stringers get in the game since they took the 9 hour bus ride.

But yeah, they could have easily scored 75 had they went full force

All of the NFL and college talent that came through their pipeline was 5'8" 153 pounds?

Quote from: Nolebull813 on Sep 08, 2026, 02:39 PMWest Monroe is the biggest high school in Louisiana.

West Monroe hasn't been the largest high school in Louisiana since they build West Ouachita in 1989 and took 40% of the students

I hope Drew Brees, his boys and Santa Fe Christian can win an  elite California Bowl  championship this year...

They were so close last year.

I'm going to keep my eye on Santa Fe Christian.

No need for anybody to keep an eye on Newman.
Newman will make the trip to California next year and Santa Fe Christian won't have their 6-4 QB who was the biggest player on the field last night. 😀

Newman and Santa Fe were the same set up. Same size high scho enrollment. Same ranking in their metro area. Same cost of tuition. Same everything. The only difference was Santa Fe had to travel 2 time zones to play. With jet lag.

Newman had home field advantage with their good ole boy refs.

This was a bad loss for Newman, New Orleans Metro and Louisiana in general. 41-7 after 3 quarters is not a good look

I noticed Red Flag orphaned all the Losioana teams who got the tar beat out them OOS.

When State number 3 Baton Rouge Catholic was losing 61-20 in the 3rd quarter, he made this whole paragraph about how Catholic sucks and won't win state and wont be top 250 blah blah blah.

Then he said after Curtis was able to only lose by 2 scores with the help of the most crooked refs this decade he said they aren't the same team won't win state and they suck blah blah blah

Now Newman is next man up who forever sucks and won't win anything.

I really hope Ruston beats Longview. Louisiana is running out of teams! Lol.
