Title: Louisiana HSFB starts this week!
Post by: Nolebull813 on Aug 29, 2026, 05:50 AM
Alright, finally. It's here. The time Red Flag stops shitting on random teams around the country because he is too busy spraying perfume on a huge turd that is Louisana vs out of state teams. All off season we had to hear about the most random obscure teams like Legacy TX, and West Point MS.

Let's dive into the week 1 matchups

Alexandria vs Bryant AR

Catholic vs Carrollton GA

Curtis vs North Shore TX

Newman vs St John TX

Who do you guys have? This is all that's on tap. I thought maybe it would be more but this is it. What Louisiana team or teams get the W this week?

Carrollton and North Shore. The rest of the games are of no interest.

Do you think the Louisiana teams take care of business and notch some marquee OOS wins they so desperately need?

They'll take Redzone's for sure before the games. As far as who wins, not the boot state.

I love me some gaybob'813 meltdown!!

He blames Louisiana for Carol City, FL sucking. 🏈😂🏈

Looks like Carol City losing to a now national top 75 team is just the thing a 75 year old inbred from Lousiana needed to take the attention off the OOS results that are coming this week for his state.

LMAO!!!

Let's dive into the week 1 matchups

Alexandria vs Bryant AR - Sneaky game - Toss-up - Alexandria by 7 I guess.

Catholic vs Carrollton GA - Carrollton already have 2 games under their belt.  Going with the Gerogia boys on this one. (Desoto Effect)

Curtis vs North Shore TX - NOPE!  ONLY Chance Curtis has is if North Shore doesn't take the game serious and slack off for a few quarters (which they have a history of doing so).  Curtis has NOWHERE near the firepower to keep up with the Mustangs.  They will not be able to bleed the clock against them.  North Shore gets the W.

Newman vs St John TX - I don't know enough on either of these to pick.  Going with Newman.

2-2 for the Boot.

My picks above.

When is the last time a Louisiana team beat a top Texas team?

Let me rephrase, WHO is the highest ranked Texas team that a Louisiana team has beaten in the last 20 years?

Yes, I remember 2000 W. Monroe over Midland Lee. It has officially passed the quarter century mark so we will need a new example to pick from..

Give me the best Texas team that was defeated by a Louisiana team

In 2024 Ruston beat TX #13 Longview 21-10
Longview beat Desoto 51-14 in the 6A 2 playoffs.
Longview made it all the way to the 6A 2 semifinals losing by 3 points to Southlake Carroll on a walk-off field goal.

Ruston made the 5A state championship game in Louisiana and was running clock by Baton Rouge Central 41-0.
Catholic (Baton Rouge) kicked Central (Baton Rouge) to the curb in the regular season.

I don't want to hear shit about thug  DeSoto

God,  hear me
Please!

Ok #13 in Texas is a good win. Especially for Lousiana. So let's see if Desoto can beat that this year. I think they will.

Desoto is still a good football team. Sometimes elite teams can make you look less than impressive

My Louisiana Preseason Top 10

1-Ruston
2-Alexandria
3-John Curtis (NOLA)
4-St Aug (NOLA)
5-Edna Karr (NOLA)
6-Catholic (Baton Rouge)
7-Southside
8-Archbishop Rummel (NOLA)
9-Central (Baton Rough)
10 St Thomas More

Got Some Votes In My Head:
Monroe Neville
Acadiana
Destrehan  (NOLA)
Brother Martin (NOLA)
Barbe
Jesuit (NOLA)
U-High (Baton Rouge)
Dunham (Baton Rouge)-no team benefited from the transfer portal more than 2A Dunham and 3A U-High
Dunham is led by a 5* QB (#1 QB nationally) committed to Alabama. Dunham has 6 or 7 really great players, but not much depth. But as we have seen this weekend 4 or 5 players can change the game

Did Not Receive Any Votes In My Head:
Newman 🤣

Imagine a Ruston-Aquinas game.  We'd be hearing how Ruston sucks.

Carver(NOLA) is Preseason #170 in Louisiana if Maxpreps is your Bible, BUT when Carver gets off the bus they "look" like they could be a Louisiana Preseason #40 team.

That's just your typical inner City football. I probably have Carver closer to a Top 100 team. They can make some plays just not enough of them during  the game.

I think Carver (NOLA) and King Drew (Los Angeles) might be a good game. King Drew is currently ranked #649 in California. I would take Carver in that game.

St Frances Academy scheduled King Drew this year. How sad and bad is that. I don't care what that's all about, that's just pathetic

John Curtis scheduled Louisville, MS who is now #8 in MS after their big West Point win...... and people shitting on John Curtis for scheduling Louisville. Right!

I like this Ruston team a lot

Ruston has like 7 kids that will probably commit to LSU, 2 already have ...at least I hope they all commit to LSU..
I believe they have 5 players who are Top 25 Nationally at their position..., do you know how hard that is for a non All-Star team?, nah, you don't have a freaking clue.

Note: and on top of all that Ruston is just coached better than Desoto

2024,
Ruston, La 21 Longview, TX 10
Longview, TX 51 Desoto, TX 14
Ruston,La 65 Stephenville, TX 17
Central (Baton Rough) 41 Ruston 0.... running clock

Now I feel like I'm 9 years old.
Crazy.👇
Last year the #2 5A team in Texas final regular season poll beat Houston Legacy 52-49 in the last minute.

St Aug (NOLA) hung 70 on Houston Legacy and that running clock game.
Even little St Charles Catholic beat Houston Legacy last year 35-31.

The other board is gone or we'd see how you tried to downplay Augustine before and after the game. They were petty much as good as anyone in Louisiana outside of the Karr debacle.

Desoto was the only team to beat Augustine that year outside of Karr by multiple scores (Desoto beat them by 25 and it wasn't even that close)

For the record Ruston did pick up an impact transfer this year. I know I've already mentioned it, but he's a good one.

4* LB Shamar Evans...... he's an athletic beast.

Evans was born in Ruston and has family in Ruston...... transferred back to Ruston from Mississippi

Dunham could be the real deal though. They play Catholic (Baton Rouge) this year and I'm very interested in that game.
I've talked about the 5* Dunham QB, but he's 6'5 230 lbs and he's a playmaker..

Class 2A

School, 1st rec, points

1. Dunham (9) 0-0 130

2. Calvary Baptist (1) 0-0 116

3. Mangham (1) 0-0 105

4. Oak Grove 0-0 97

5. Notre Dame 0-0 81

6. Kinder 0-0 55

7. Catholic-New Iberia 0-0 47

8. Lafayette Christian Academy 0-0 44

9. Amite 0-0 43

10. Loreauville 0-0 30

Others receiving votes: West St. Mary 28, Newman 23, Union Parish 22, Country Day 8, Ferriday 3, Mansfield 1.

3 of the last 4 years they were top 5 in their class. The other year they were 7th. So conventional wisdom would say that the postseason rankings will look a lot different in a couple months!

Both these teams are in affluent areas and have all the resources needed to compete. They both have about 400 students in the high school, and are both top 20 in their metro area.

This game should go down to the wire. Anything less than a one possession 4 quarter war will be an utter embarrassment to the loser

Do Louisiana schools make a habit of scheduling two OOS games during supposed down years?

Newman returns 8 starters from last year's 7-3 team.
Newman lost to every good team they played last year.
Newman will lose to every good team they play this year too.

Newman has a new head football coach and he was quoted in their 2026 preview "playing OOS teams is trending". Maybe he's trying to build something, I don't know what's in his head.

Kids just aren't going to Newman to play football so it doesn't matter whatever is in his head .

It cost between $35,000 and $45,000 to go to Newman and that will always be Newman.

They have a beautiful campus in the Historic Garden District with lots of nice stuff though .

It's very difficult taking Newman seriously in football most every year. They've had some competitive teams in "2A", but they have never played in a state championship game.

Cool, Newman is not playing  Second Baptist.
Newman is playing St John's Houston who's probably a Top 15 team in Houston. St John's already clubbed Second Baptist this year. 😮
Again, this is if MaxPreps is your Bible.

Houston has over 100 high schools playing football.

The shit I got to put up with on this forum is unholy

No what I'm saying is if the 44th Houston team that's not in the state top 200 can give St. John's a  4 quarter war, Newman should be able to as well

Santa Fe Christian is the only team that there's no argument that they're "good". St. John's has a long, glorious history of being mid and doesn't have anything particularly compelling on this year's roster that says things should be different. Bonnabel had what was far and away their best season of the Maxpreps era but appeared to be very senior-dominated (I say "appeared to be" as most Louisiana schools don't make this easy by inputting stats into Maxpreps; based on who had significant highlight videos on Hudl their best guys were seniors).

Beyond football Newman athletics has produced an 11-year NBA veteran and a would-be Olympic sprinter that sat the 1936 Games out instead of paying tribute to the worst guy ever. IMG they are not and you're probably correct in saying nobody goes to Newman to play football but it seems like they've had more than a fair share of elite athletes pass through there.

No matter how much you want to diminish this Newman is going to be representative of Louisiana when they play St. John's and Santa Fe, for better or worse. Stop trying to dull the worst case scenario by overhyping the mid OOS teams that one of your mid teams decided to schedule.

Expecting some very bad weather in Lafayette Friday especially during the afternoon. Hopefully is eases off before kickoff and there's no lightning.

My honest predictions for the 4 OOS games

North Shore 34, Curtis 20

Carrollton 49, Catholic 24

Alexandria 27, Bryant 21

St John's 30, Newman 20

All Carrollton has to do is run out and beat Buford in the state championship game and they'll be your MNC for 2026...... they will get a piece of it anyways.

Hopefully Catholic can at least make them play 4 quarters......no one else has this year so far.

Catholic has some good players and they're scrappy.

Not making any excuses for Catholic, but this will be Carrollton's 3rd game of the year. They are already just about clicking at mid-season form. Of course the first 2 games for Carrollton were running clocks.

Season opener for Catholic and theyvare expected to make some mistakes and they are starting a rookie QB. He did look pretty good in their Jamboree.

Advantage Carrollton

BUT,

Carrollton has to travel close to  9 hours to Baton Rouge.
I believe this is the furthest Carrollton has ever traveled for an OOS game. Maybe they travel like Desoto.

Advantage Catholic

Louisana HSFB has gone exactly how everyone expected.

Lose the only meaningful OOS games - check

Win against some obscure off the wall teams and have the worlds most insecure poster brag about it - double check

Rinse repeat

How the Louisiana Sportswriters Top 10 did this weekend.
CLASS 5A

1. Ruston (beat Neville 42-16)
2. Edna Karr (beat Lafayette Renaissance 48-21)
3. St. Augustine (vs. McDonogh 35 Sat.)
4. Alexandria (beat Bryant, Ark. 44-20)
5. Catholic-BR (lost to Carrollton, Ga. 61-27)
6. John Curtis (lost to North Shore, Tex. 27-17)
7. Archbishop Rummel (beat University Lab 34-28)
8. Southside (lost to Brother Martin 38-19)
9. St. Thomas More (beat Teurlings Catholic 35-0)
10. Central (lost to Acadiana 47-35)

St Aug won their game yesterday 45-0.

Brother Martin taking out Southside was a big surprise.
Of course Brother Martin has the best player in the nation and several other quality athletes. Southside was supposed to be the shit this year.

Brother Martin will definitely move up into the poll this week. The NOLA Catholic League will have 5 teams ranked next week. Going to be a fun year....

3 OOS games on tap for Lousiana this week.

Lousiana #28 and New Orleans #13 locks horns with the 107th ranked California team Santa Fe Christian

Undefeated 4A Carver takes their show on the road against 2A Pensacola Catholic who is reeling off their double digit loss to Godby this past week

And the states top 3 teams lost their Ruston plays Texas 18 Longview.

I can dig it. It's not a football school by any stretch. The Southwest Prep conference isn't really for football. It's mainly for field hockey, lacrosse and things like that.

It cost $40,000 per year to attend St John's. You are not getting talented football players. You are getting talented lawyers, doctors and accountants.

The fact that they played a 1 point game with Louisiana power Newman who is currently 13th in New Orleans and 28th in the state says a lot more about Newman than it does St John's.

Bryant is 0-2 about to be 0-3

Legacy is 0-2 about to be 0-3.

Where is a good Louisiana win? I've been asking for years now. All I got was 3 loss TAPPS and 3 loss Mississippi.

Now we got Red Flag chest thumping some off the wall Southwest Prep League team.

Think about that. How shitty does New Orleans have to be where their 13th ranked team is 1 point better than some off the wall not UIL, not TAPPS, but freaking SOUTHWEST PREP team?????

That's not really accurate either, but then I don't expect accuracy or honesty on this forum....... just people hustling for giggles and likes.

Four-Year Starter: He starred for St. John's from 2010 to 2014, opening and closing his high school career with league championships

Senior Stats: During the 2013–2014 season, he averaged 27.5 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

Major Honors: He was named Gatorade Texas Player of the Year in 2013 and selected as a McDonald's All-American and Parade All-American in 2014.
College & NBA: He went on to play college basketball for the Duke Blue Devils, winning a national championship in 2015, before being drafted 10th overall in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Miami Heat.

I was aware of this, hence the "legitimate argument" portion of my post. Winslow certainly wins if the argument is notoriety, but if the argument is centered around actual achievement the woman nearing a decade-long stretch as a member of a US national team in any sport is (arguably) a bigger deal than a dude that stopped being good at basketball when he could no longer overpower the opposition with his physical gifts.

My basketball career had a very similar outcome to Winslow's, in that as soon as I stopped being bigger, faster, and stronger than the bulk of my competition I stopped being a meaningful player. I was just much more efficient in reaching that final outcome.

2A Pensacola Catholic went up 2 classes to play 4A Carver LA and after losing last week by double digits they rebound nicely to beat undefeated New Orleans Carver 45-0.

Get this it was 41-0 after 1 quarter!!!!!!

They got 2 safeties. One before halftime and one in the 4th quarter with all the freshman and sophomore playing

41 in the 1st quarter. Is that some sort of record?

Looks like the updated record is Florida panhandle 62 wins, State of Lousiana 31 wins.

Catholic wins another one for the panhandle.

From 1958-2026 (68 years) just the Florida panhandle is 62-31 against the entire state of Louisiana.

And this doesn't include STA beating state champ Curtis, Deerfield Beach beating Louisiana top 10 Zachary 53-0 or AH-Delray beating Louisiana top 6 by 4 scores

The best OOS game of the week is against the 10th ranked Arkansas team. After that the 168th ranked Texas team.
