I can't remember it ever happening.
Arizona can travel to Texas, right?
I guess it's about the same flight time as flying to California.
Happened a ton pre-1950, as the major metro schools here (Phoenix Union, Phoenix North, Tucson and Mesa) had almost annual games against the El Paso schools and Mesa had a home and home with Port Arthur in the thirties when PA was a Texas state power. Recently Buckeye Union made a trip to Odessa to get shit-canned by Not Mojo in 2019 and to Dallas in 2024 to get curb-stomped by First Baptist.
Arizona teams typically take charter bus to SoCal and the only Texas locale that's comparable driving distance is El Paso (the juice isn't worth the squeeze for one of our powers to go there). A Basha or Hamilton gets very little from any Texas trip at this point that isn't to the Metroplex or Houston, since the expectation is we should be able to beat El Paso and west Texas squads with minimal issues. It's also a big selling point for families to get out of the heat in September when we're still in the 110s.
Completely forgot that Highland traveled to play Anna this season (Anna won 18-9).
I wasn't even aware of that Anna game.
Oh yeah,
NOLA Saints Rookie QB Tyler Shough who prepped at Hamilton is a NFL QB.
He's legit and going to be a good one!
Wish he had started earlier this season.
The Saints would be in the playoffs and he would have won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
He might still win it.
