Perhaps the most talented team in Illinois this year.
They're going for their fourth straight state championship this year, but they are moving up to class 8A from 7A.
Mount Carmel has double digit D1 prospects including 5 4-star prospects.
In the MaxPreps era East St Louis is 0-3 vs Mount Carmel, but East St Louis gets all the hype every year.
Anyways
Mount Carmel will be playing Ohio's Preseason #1 team this year Archbishop Moeller. That should be a great game as Moeller is loaded too.
.
I'm going to try to watch this game online.
HSFA (Fisher) has East St Louis Preseason #8 in the nation. This might be East St Louis' least talented team this decade.
I believe that ranking has everything to do with East St Louis playing Bergen Catholic, NJ.
Mount Carmel has been there and done that 3 times in the MaxPreps era (since 2004).
East St Louis plays in Illinois class 5A.
Anyways another year of people just putting high school football teams where they want them in a poll.
Comical!
Besides them playing Moeller this year, what are the top teams They have played the last three years?
East St. Louis has skins on the wall. They beat nationally ranked powerhouse St Frances Academy.
It's called equity. And ESL has it.

In 2023 East St Louis beat (5-6) St Frances 13-7..... that was a well below average St Frances squad.
Mount Carmel beat East St Louis 36-33 that year.
Mount Carmel was in total control up 36-19 with about 7 minutes left in the game. The game got kind of freaky at the end.
That same year East St Louis was clubbed/manhandled in Texas.
Anyways, East St Louis has no business Preseason #8 in the nation. That's just someone's fantasy.
SFA's record is misleading given the fact they had one of the hardest if not the hardest schedules in the country. 99 percent of the teams nationwide wouldn't have survived it.
I'm not saying ESL is better than Mt Carmel no matter what because they schedule better teams, but it is a leading reason IMO why pollsters would have them higher from year to year. Familiarity. Mt Carmel is a not nationally known
And it's funny you left out after barely losing to Mt Carmel in 2023, they lost to someone called Cary Grove in the playoffs, and didn't even finish top 5 in the state with 3 losses, while Mt Carmel won state and only had one loss by 2 points to the 14-0 top team in the state
I'm sure no one had ESL in a national poll at the end of that year.
Sorry ESL being nationally known and ranked is what is keeping you up at night. Lol
Speaking of Mount Carmel owning East St Louis. Like I said.
Mount Carmel has proven to be the best football program in Illinois and their history goes back to the 1930s and 1940s
East St Louis is all flash.
Mount Carmel/East St Louis All Time Record.
Mount Carmel up 5-1 with Mount Carmel winning the last 5 in a row.
1987
East St Louis 19 Mount Carmel 7
1988
Mt Carmel 21 East St Louis 7
1995
Mount Carmel 57 East St Louis 27
2017
Mount Carmel 21 East St Louis 18
2018
Mount Carmel 30 East St Louis 19
2023
Mount Carmel 36 East St Louis 33
Mt Carmel is a $14,000 per year private Catholic school with a majority white population.
East St Louis is 96 percent black.
It's blatantly obvious why you are propping up Mt Carmel and crapping on ESL
Doing a little expanded research.
Mount Carmel clubbed Archbishop Moeller 20-7 in 1990.....that Mount Carmel team finished #4 nationally in 1990..Moeller went 9-2 in 1990.
Anyways, I guess Moeller will be looking for a little payback this year
In 1990, the Mount Carmel (Chicago) football team defeated Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati) 20-7 in the season opener at Riverfront Stadium. This game was part of Mount Carmel's undefeated 14-0 season, which culminated in a state championship. The game against Moeller was the only meeting between the two schools.
Read an article in the Chicago Sun Times yesterday that said this Mount Carmel team is the most talented team in Chicago area history. History!
They are Preseason #1 in Illinois per the paper.
I read a lot of stuff and watch a lot of videos.
No one's really giving them their due though nationally.
I'm pretty sure this team here would crush a team like Bixby, Oklahoma. I would put good money on it.
Saw a ridiculous poll that had Bixby #10 in the nation
Looking forward to this game. Despite losing most of their top offensive skill players and a number of defenders from last years team, I've still got Moeller at #2 in Ohio to start this year with player of the year Matt Ponatoski returning at QB, a big and talented offensive line including 4-star transfer Kalel Johnson, and two D1 bound TE's.
Archbishop Moeller may have the edge at QB.
Mount Carmel's breaking in a new guy this year. Last year's QB is at Vanderbilt.
Having a proven and confident QB in these type battles is the difference a lot of times.
I saw some s***** QBs this past weekend.
That said. This should be a great game
